Measuring the Grain Size of Quartz Sand and Ash

In waste incineration plants that use the fluidized bed process, quartz sand is utilized. By monitoring the grain size of the sand and ash particles, the process can be supervised and optimally adjusted.

To ensure that CLICK2MEASURE delivers meaningful results, measurement results were compared with those obtained through laser diffraction.

When the imaging conditions are favorable (with minimal shadowing), it was demonstrated that the measurement results in the range of 500 micrometers to 2 mm are not significantly less accurate than those from laser diffraction.

A major advantage of this is that, with laser diffraction, samples need to be sent from the plants by post and undergo a complex analysis. With CLICK2MEASURE, samples can be captured directly on-site. Additionally, the measurement can be performed by employees on-site after a short training session.

In the fluidized bed process, combustion air is introduced into the combustion chamber via nozzles, and sand is added. Fuel, ash, and sand are kept suspended in the furnace. The good mixing of fuel and air results in a relatively uniform combustion at relatively low temperatures in the fluidized bed, and it effectively prevents streak formation (e.g., due to unburned air), which also leads to a reduction in carbon monoxide emissions. By continuously monitoring the ash particles, the process can be supervised more precisely.

Measurement of Coffee Bean Size

Since the size of coffee beans has a significant impact on the roasting process, particularly on roasting time and temperature, CLICK2MEASURE can accurately capture and analyze the bean size.

Larger coffee beans generally require more time to roast fully, as the heat takes longer to penetrate the inside of the beans. Smaller beans roast faster because they have less mass, and the heat can pass through them more quickly.

For larger beans, it may be necessary to adjust the temperature slightly to ensure that the beans are roasted evenly, without burning the outside and leaving the inside under-roasted. Smaller beans can be roasted at a lower temperature or for a shorter time to achieve an even roast.

With CLICK2MEASURE, you can obtain a size distribution without the tedious process of sieving and weighing, allowing you to better adjust the roasting process.
